Government relations projects over the last few years have included representing a law firm on litigation legislation, pension reform and various matters. WORK ON PATENT BILL CONTINUES AHEAD OF MARKUP - 'Negotiations over changes to patent reform legislation continued as the House Judiciary Committee prepared for a vote on the America Invents Act Thursday,' reports our own Brooks Boliek. 'House Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith (R-Texas) released a manager's amendment that makes changes in the legislation, as he sought to hold together a fragile coalition that saw the bill through Senate passage last month.' FALSE MARKS MAR PATENT BILL - At least that's what consumer-rights groups are saying in a letter to congress. Public Citizen, the National Consumers League and the Public Patent Foundation told lawmakers the 'false mark' provision in the America Invents Act needs to be excised. 'Marketing a product with a false or expired patent is a violation of the law and deceptive labeling,' the groups wrote. 'It injures consumers and undermines the effective working of the market. We urge you to let the cleanup of expired patents continue, and not pass this anti-consumer, retroactive legislation.'
